New Advances in High Energy Accelerators and High Energy Physics

Professor Gu Mengping, Institute of High Energy Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences

Lecturer Profile:

In 1956, he graduated from the Radio Department of Nanjing Institute of Technology, majoring in Electrical Vacuum Technology.

From 1956 to 1986, he worked in the Institute of Atomic Energy of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and was engaged in practical research, assistant research and high-tech posts.

From 1964 to 1969, he was also the director of klystron workshop of Beijing Electronic Tube Factory.

From 1986 to 1995, he was a researcher in Institute of High Energy Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

From 1980 to 2005, he worked and studied in BNL, FNAL, SLAC, CEBAF, European LAL, CERN, DESY, KEK and other high energy physics and accelerator laboratories in the United States.

Achievements in Scientific Research

Professor Gu has been engaged in the research work of electron linear accelerator, high-power klystron and high-current electron gun for a long time. He led the team to design and develop high-power klystron and electron gun for the first 30Mev electron linear accelerator in China. He also developed nanosecond pulse electron gun and HK-1 30 MW high-power klystron for the engineering design of Beijing Positron-Negative Collider (BEPC). From 2005 to 2010, he has designed and developed a high current nanosecond pulse electron gun and a high pulse power (40-50MW) klystron for the Beijing Positron-Negative Collider Improvement Project (BEPCII).

Professor Gu was awarded the National Science and Technology Congress Science and Technology Achievement Award in 1978, the National Electronic Science and Technology Progress Award in 1986, the National Major Technology and Equipment Achievement Award in 1991 for 34MW klystron, and the Government Special Allowance expert awarded by the State Council in 1992. He was a member of China Society of Vacuum Electronics and a member of China Society of Electronics.
