On 4 June 2018, Professor Yang Shunnan, School of Optometry, Pacific University, USA, visited the Joint International Research Laboratory of Information Display and Visualization at Southeast University. Prof. Yang gave an excellent lecture entitled "Electronic Lighting and Visual Health-screen quality with advances in Science and Technology". The lecture was presided over by Professor Tu Yan and attended by teachers and more than 30 graduate students of the laboratory.

Starting from the basic physical concept of light, Professor Yang introduced the formation mechanism of human eye structure and vision, analyzed the influence of lighting and display on visual health, especially modern electronic lighting and display under the development of science and technology. He pointed out the cause, representation and measurement method of visual fatigue, and introduced the related standards of visual ergonomics. After the lecture, Professor Yang visited the laboratory with great interest and communicated with the faculty and students of the Visual Health Research Group of Southeast University.

Prof. Yang received a master's degree in cognitive psychology from the National University of Political Science, Taiwan, and a doctorate in cognitive neuroscience at the Institute of Psychology, University of Illinois, USA. Subsequently, he was engaged in a post-doctoral study on the process of motor vision simulation at the (RIKEN) Institute of brain Science, Institute of Chemistry, Japan. In 2003, he was a researcher at the SMITH-KETTLEWELL Eye Institute of the United States. In 2007 he joined the Institute of Visual performance, School of Optometry, and he is currently the research director of the institute.

Prof. Yang's visit enables us to understand the teaching and research capabilities of Optometry at Taiping University in the United States. At present, Southeast University is responsible for the National key R & D Project "New display Visual Health Research". Professor Yang's research is in good agreement with our research. The two sides have reached an intention of cooperation and exchange on research areas of common concern, and intend to jointly declare the National Natural Science Foundation for cooperation in interdisciplinary research in the fields of optometry, cognition and display, lighting and visual health, and carry out the joint training of graduate students.
